As flip-up helmets go, the Shoei Neotec is among the best ones available. The helmet looks and feels substantial, and the quality of components and finish is very high.

Shoei has put real effort in making this a quiet helmet. The front cover is equipped with what Shoei calls a ‘vortex generator’ to create small turbulence around the front cover to avoid air leaking into the helmet and creating wind noise. The chin curtain also helps reduce noise levels inside the helmet. For added comfort the Neotec also features ear pads to lessen noise. In use the helmet is noticeable quitter than some that I have tested.

Ventilation is taken care of by two intake vents, one in the chin and one at the top of the helmet, and an exit vent round the back. They work well and have kept my head cool without any problems.

As far as comfort goes, it doesn’t get much better than this. The fit is great, and the lining feels soft and plush. Cheek pads are available in different sizes for individual adjustment.

The main visor and the integrated sun visor are both easy to operate. There is a small lip on the bottom edge of the main visor, which helps lift it up and lower it back down. A little catch secures the visor in the closed position. There’s a Pinlock lens in the box, which is easy to attach to the visor and provides an effective shield against fogging. The sun visor is operated with a lever on the left side of the helmet. A simple slide of the lever easily brings the visor up or down.

The shell combines organic and multi-composite fibres in various layers to create a shock absorbent and rigid product. The helmet has a four star Sharp rating, so it offers a good level of protection. In addition, the sun visor is approved according the European EN 1836 standard for sunglasses. The interiors are fully removable, washable and replaceable. The micro ratchet locking system on the strap is easy to use and feels secure.

This is a premium helmet, and the price reflects that, but you get a lot for your money. The levels of comfort and quality are noticeable.
