Ducati for sale: Harley, KTM, Polaris and BRP-Roota Rotax join Royal Enfield on the list of potential buyers

Although nothing has been formally announced regarding the sale of the Ducati brand by the Volkswagen group, Italian sources have revealed that Harley-Davidson, KTM, Polaris and BRP- Roota Rotax have joined the list of potential buyers.

A couple of weeks ago, we revealed that Royal Enfield has shown interest in taking on the Italian brand, but it has recently emerged that a handful of other giants of the two-wheeled world are investigating the viability of adding Ducati to their roster.

Volkswagen, the owners of Ducati, are yet to make any kind of statement (either confirming or refuting the claims). However, in addition to the aforementioned Royal Enfield interest, it has been revealed that there has been H & D staff visiting the Ducati facility, gaining an understanding of the business. The Italian source even goes on to suggest that the possible sale of the Bologna brand is as a result of the high costs derived from MotoGP  racing (which, sort of, makes sense when you consider what a successful year Ducati have had from a consumer sales perspective).

Without official information from Volkswagen (something that probably won’t emerge until an agreement is signed with a buyer) we’re playing a bit of a waiting game to see who comes up on top in the race for the Ducati brand. Of course, we’ll be keeping a close eye on how this story develops – and as soon as any official announcements are made about the future of the iconic Italian motorcycle brand, we’ll be sure to let you know.
