INTERMOT: Ducati unveils THREE updated Scrambler variants. Desert Sled. Cafe Racer. Full Throttle.


Following on from the launch of the new Scrambler Icon a couple of weeks ago, Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicale was on hand at INTERMOT in Cologne, to unveil THREE new additions to the Scrambler range for 2019; the Full Throttle, the Café Racer and the Desert Sled.

 All-new headlight with LED DRL (Daytime Running Light) and new auto-off LED indicators.

– More ergonomic switchgears simplify scrolling of the LCD menu, which now shows selected gear and fuel level info. Plus, they also allow smooth operation of the Ducati Multimedia System, which lets riders listen to playlists, answer incoming calls or chat with the passenger on the intercom.

– Introduction of new Bosch Cornering ABS.

It’s been just four years since the first of the new generation of Ducati Scambler’s were first unveiled in Cologne in 2014, and since then over 55,000 bikes have been sold worldwide. Following on from its success, Ducati has just unveiled three all-new Scrambler models for 2019 – in the form of the Full Throttle, Café Racer and the Desert Sled.

First off, let’s take a look at the new Full Throttle. Essentially, it draws inspiration from the flat track Scrambler ridden by Californian racer Frankie Garcia in the 2018 American Super Hooligan Championship. It features a two-tone black-yellow white-striped tank, an all-new rear end with dedicated seat and white-rimmed yellow number holders – which helps to give the bike a real dirt track competition feel. And to complete the look, it comes with a low-slung tapered handlebar, a stubby front mudguard and a dual-silencer exhaust system.

Next up, the Café Racer. The Café Racer draws inspiration from the legendary Ducati 125GP Desmo – evident from its dual tailpipe, a nose fairing, lateral number holders (with the number 54 in honour of Bruno Spiaggiari) and stubby mudguard – in addition to its Silver Ice Matt graphics and blue frame. And it looks trick, doesn’t it? It alsos comes with 17″ spoked wheels and aluminium bar-end mirrors to help complete the bikes ’60s race feel – but there’s no ‘60s tech here, its modern radial front brake pump provides braking performance on par with that of a modern sportbike.

Finally, there’s the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled, which is looking to rekindle the historic values of old school American off-road bikes of the ‘60s. It comes with a red frame, new seat with colour-coordinated stitching and spoked wheels with black rims – and it looks the business. That’s not all though, the new Desert Sled also features an Off Road Riding Mode that allows ABS disengagement for down-in-the-dirt fun, which is a really nice touch. There’s also adjustable Kayaba suspension, a rugged headlight mesh guard, high mudguards (specially designed for this version) and engine skid pan – so it should be up to taking a beating on the dirt.
