Inevitably, there are a few notable differences between the two bikes – I mean, the KTM is naked and the TVS is faired, just for starters. But they’ll be fighting against each other for sales in the A2 licence market, so it’s definitely worth seeing how they compare on the road.

As two of the best rated bikes in Asia, it’s not surprising that sooner or later they were pitted against one and other. On paper, the lighter KTM has a power advantage, kicking out 43bhp at 9500rpm, and offering 35Nm of torque, while the TVS/BMW kicks out 34bhp at 9,700rpm and 27.3Nm of torque. And out on the road, it seems that the KTM makes the most of its advantage, pipping the TVS in the drag race – though it’s worth noting that they have the same top speed, thanks in part to the faired TVS’s aerodynamics.
