Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) leads the way to Q2 on the combined timesheets at the Gran Premio Red Bull de España, followed by Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) and a late charge from Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar). The biggest headline, however, was who is left heading for Q1 – Championship leader Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) and Americas GP podium finisher Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP).

One crasher in FP3 was Tito Rabat (Reale Avintia Racing), rider ok and sprinting back from the incident to pitlane, but the key drama came from the flurry of track activity as the times tumbled. Behind the top trio of Marquez, Crutchlow and Iannone, Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) took P4 as top Yamaha – with Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) top Ducati to complete the top five, just ahead of Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing).

2016 Jerez winner Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) took seventh ahead of 2017 winner Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) as the Spaniard continues his comeback from injury, with Danilo Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing) and Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) – riding in the Spanish GP in the class for the first time after missing last year’s event through injury – completing the top ten.

That’s where Dovizioso and Viñales pop up on the combined timesheets – P11 and P12, just outside automatic graduation and therefore heading for Q1, which begins at 14:10 (GMT +2).
