The big changes for 2019 are its 84cc greater displacement, and a new switch cam system on the intake. The video confirms that the unit will kick out 136bhp and 143Nm of torque.

The new “shift cam” boxer engine should help to offer improved performance – with the help of its completely new cylinder heads. And not only should performance be improved, but it’s likely that the bikes behaviour when loaded up should be better than ever before. The trick is its new switching cam – which sits on the intake and allows the BMW to offer two distinct characters in a single machine, because the intake camshaft has two cam profiles per valve. When you’re on a part loaded bike riding at idling and low speeds, a tame cam profile with less valve lift and shorter control times is employed , but when you’re in need of full power, the engine shifts to the sharp intake timing. Clever.

We’ll be riding it next week, so we’ll soon know much more about BMW’s latest creation. We’ll bring you the full test of the next-gen GS right here on MoreBikes.
