Police officer faces the sack for ‘ramming’ moped rider DESPITE Met Police approving the tactic.

A police officer is due before a disciplinary panel today, and could face the sack for carrying out ‘tactical contact’ by driving his vehicle into the path of a moped being ridden by a 17-year old suspected thief in South London.

Despite the force authorising the robust tactic for reducing crime, Metropolitan PC Edwin Sutton is one of three officers being probed by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

He is accused of driving his vehicle into the path of a moped being ridden by a 17-year-old in South London in May 2017. And although the teenager is not thought to have been seriously hurt – the police watchdog has recommended gross misconduct proceedings against PC Sutton.

Cops say they have no protection under law for using the tactic – and yet, the Met says “hard stops” have helped to cut moped-enabled crime in London by more than 50 per cent in a year.

Met Police Federation chairman Ken Marsh said: “What message does this case send? We believe this officer acted within guidelines, but is being fed to the wolves. It’s not right.”
