Following a crash earlier this week while testing the Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS bike at Jerez, Sam Lowes, 29, has been forced to the sidelines whilst his mashed right shoulder receives urgent treatment.

Sam went to the Hospital University Dexeus in Barcelona for the shoulder to be checked out after the fall and Doctor Xavier Mir made the following diagnosis.

Once the clinical, radiological and magnetic resonance examination was carried out it was confirmed that Lowes has suffered a fracture and dislocation of the right shoulder. Specifically, the top of the humerus bone was fractured without displacement while the ligaments within the shoulder socket were ruptured.

The initial recovery period will consist of rest and treatment. Lowes will then undergo radiological and ultrasound to assess: “His suitability to begin active recovery.”

The estimated recovery time for this type of injury is around four weeks. However, Lowes’ on-track return will depend on how well and how quickly he heals.
