“With the RC we are targeting the youngest customers, especially riders in Europe who have just got an A2 licence and are dreaming about a super-sports bike. But also people who have stopped riding, maybe after an accident, and want to restart after a few years. The RC390 is a good bike to find your confidence again. And when you consider its competitors it’s the best option before you get to a 600cc class bike.

“We considered developing an RC690, too, but it’s not in the plan. When you consider the price of the 690 Duke, then add a premium for the fully faired model, you reach a price that would mean an RC690 couldn’t compete against 600cc four-cylinder bikes. There would be niche demand from single cylinder fans but not enough to justify developing a brand new model.”
