BMW’s 2016 range: first look at new GS

BMW Motorrad has announced a number of 2016 model year updates including the new Dynamic Brake Light, a special-edition model and new colour options.

Dynamic Brake Light.

As part of BMW Motorrad’s Safety 360° strategy, Dynamic Brake Light has been created as a passive safety feature. The system, which is integrated into the BMW advanced motorcycle braking system ABS Pro, operates in two stages.

If the rider brakes from over 50km/h, the rear brake light flashes at a rate of 5Hz, making the motorcycle as visible as possible to other road users.

Additionally, if the speed drops below 14km/h then the hazard warning lights are automatically activated, before being switched off once the rider accelerates back up to 20km/h.

BMW ABS Pro.

BMW Motorrad’s cornering braking system ABS Pro, which debuted as a factory-fit option on the 2015 S 1000 XR, will be available to order on the 2016 R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure.

The innovative system will also be included as standard on the 2016 K 1600 GT, GTL and GTL Exclusive models.

New Dynamic Brake Light will be available on 2016 models:

• R 1200 GS
• R 1200 GS Adventure
• S 1000 XR
• K 1600 GT, GTL and GTL Exclusive (as standard)

ABS Pro will additionally be available on the following 2016 models:

• R 1200 GS
• R 1200 GS Adventure
• K 1600 GT, GTL and GTL Exclusive (as standard)

New 2016 BMW R 1200 GS Triple Black TE special-edition model:

• The world’s best-selling motorcycle in a virtually all-black finish
• Black storm metallic & Agate Grey colours
• Cross-spoke wheels with black gloss rim
• New black-grey seat with “GS” logo

New 2016 BMW R nineT special-edition model:

• Hand-brushed aluminium fuel tank with visible welding seams (or optional smoothed welding seams)
• Heated grips

New 2016 colour schemes:

• R 1200 GS TE Alpine in Light white non-metallic
• R 1200 GS Adventure in Racing red non-metallic or Ocean blue metallic or Light White
• R 1200 RT in Platinum bronze metallic
• S 1000 RR in Black storm metallic / Racing red non-metallic
• K 1600 GT Sport in Cosmic blue metallic / Black storm metallic
• K 1600 GTL in Ocean blue metallic
• K 1600 GTL Exclusive in Sparkling storm metallic
• F 800 GT in Monolith metallic / Sapphire black
