The latest version of the big bike gets the 1198cc Testastretta DS R motor which features a number of revisions over the 1200S model for more power delivered in a more ‘superbike’ way.
The Dual Spark engine has a higher compression ratio, larger throttle bodies and a new two-into-one-into-two exhaust system with 58mm pipes that increases peak power to 158bhp at 9,250rpm while maximum torque of 97ft-lb is achieved at 7,750rpm – although Ducati claims that 75 percent of that torque is delivered from just 3,500rpm.
The Monster 1200R also features a wet slipper clutch, fully-adjustable Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, lightweight carbon fibre bodywork and three-spoke forged alloy wheels with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres.
The 1200 R’s frame has been stiffened, the chassis set-up has been raised by 15mm and the seat height adjusted to 830mm to create a more dynamic riding character.
To harness the Monster’s performance, the 1200 R is fitted with the Ducati Safety Pack that incorporates three-mode ABS brakes and traction control with eight “sensitivity profiles”.
