Yamaha patents stop/start technology.

Yamaha has filed a patent for an auto-stop scooter.

The design is not model specific but a patent at this stage usually means that the technology will be included on a current model for the following year’s run – so expect this to be included in some 2017 model.

Yamaha is calling it an Idling Stop System for the scooter. Honda already has the technology on selected models like it’s Forza range.

The Yamaha system appears to work in the same way that modern cars are using a stop/start system which cuts the engine when the vehicle is stationary, the clutch is engaged and revs drop below a pre-determined level.

If this proves to be a popular move then it’s perfectly feasible that this sort of tech will be adopted further across the Yamaha range in the near future.
