Is Honda gearing up for the return of the much-loved Transalp to its adventure bike line-up?
We’ve been talking about it for some time and we even brought you some mock-ups of the bike, courtesy of our Japanese friends over at Young Machine, but up until recently there was nothing concrete to suggest when we would finally see the return of the Honda Transalp.
There’s been talk of a lighter and more compact version of the Africa Twin since its last big update back in 2019, and with a buoyant ‘middleweight’ adventure bike market which has seen Yamaha reintroduce its Tenere, it looks like the time might finally be right for Honda to bring back the Transalp. While there’s been no official word from the bigwigs at big H, the factory has recently re-registered the Transalp name – which is as sure a sign as any that the bike is coming sooner rather than later. But will we get to see it in the flesh later this year? And what’s it going to be like?
While the finer details are beyond scarce at the minute, it’s expected that the new Transalp will be powered by an 850cc four-stroke engine, which would mean it’d sit neatly beneath the Africa Twin 1100 in Honda’s line-up.
We’re expecting it to be just as capable as the Africa Twin off-road – although we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a little bit smaller, a little bit lighter and a little bit technologically advanced – which should in turn mean it’ll hopefully be a little bit cheaper too.
There’s no doubt it’s a logical step from Honda. The return of the Africa Twin has been a massive success for the factory, and it’ll surely be hoping for a similar reaction when it reintroduces a modern version of its Transalp to the range. With EICMA still a few months away, we’re going have to sit tight to find out more information about the newest addition to Honda’s adventure line-up.
