BMW goes CARBON

BMW knows what its doing when it comes to suspension – and its latest creation with ZF (Zahnradfabrik) is further proof. The two firms have collaborated to develop a carbon fibre telescopic fork for BMW’s World Endurance Team. It’s a clever bit of kit consisting of a carbon fibre outer tube and a carbon fibre composite/metal inner tube.

Getting technical, BMW Motorsport Director Mark Bongers explained: “Using this material and this technology allows us to shift the threshold at which body vibrations occur. One major focus during development was the design of the homogeneous bending loads. The goal being for the throttle response for the rider to be extremely subtle, even under the most extreme strains. And feedback from the riders confirmed that the goal was achieved.”
