Yamaha unveils the new generation MT-09

Yamaha has announced its forthcoming new generation MT-09, a decade on from the original.

The original hyper naked broke cover back in 2013 and marked for Yamaha a step away from conventional Japanese motorcycle design towards something a little different.

Inspired by Japan’s urban motorcycle sub-culture, the MT-09 was the start of a new era for Yamaha – and Yamaha is marking its 10^th anniversary with a brand new generation bike.

The 2024 MT-09 will be shown for the first time to the public at EICMA next week and will appear at Motorcycle Live at NEC which opens on 18^th November.

The new bike offers a slimmer, sharper look, with bodywork inspired by Yamaha’s YZ motorcross bikes, and boasts the latest 890cc, three-cylinder, four-valve DOHC liquid-cooled, EU5+ CP3 engine.

The new generation bike sees a new LED headlamp enclosed in a re-designed cover, plus a new fuel tank designed for a more engaged and free riding position.

The iconic MT-09 roar is amplified by a revised airbox with two newly designed air-intake ducts, as well as a new acoustic amplifier grille on top of the bike.

Modifications to the handlebar, footrest and seat improve ergonomics, including adjustable handlebar and footrest positions.

The new 5” full colour TFT screen has smartphone connectivity and navigation, and the riding experience can be customised via Yamaha Ride Control settings. There are three integrated riding modes (Sport, Street and Rain), plus the option to pre-set two custom modes, so you can tweak settings to suit your preferences.

Other technical highlights include new Brembo radial master cylinder, third generation quickshifter, new Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 M tyres, adjustable suspension for enhanced sports riding, lightweight CF aluminium die-cast frame, and Yamaha’s SpinForged wheels for agile handling.

Three colour options will be on offer: Midnight Cyan, Icon Blue and Tech Black.
