YAMAHA Tracer 7 and 7 GT

Alan Dowds brings us up to speed… With 2025 updates for the MT-07 and Ténéré appearing late last year, the only real surprise with this release is that it’s taken so long. Actually, there’s one more surprise about the 2025 Tracer 700 and GT, but we’ll come to that in a minute (can you feel the suspense building?).

Yamaha Tracer 7 and 7 GT

This is a fairly hefty update for Yamaha’s middleweight adventure machine. It gets the new Euro5+ engine, of course, which uses a new ride-by-wire engine management set up to improve emissions, but also gives easy access to a heap of modern functions: cruise control, rider power modes and more sophisticated rider aids like switchable traction control. Power is about the same as before at 72bhp though, and with a decent 203kg wet weight, it should be lively enough for the class.

There’s a solid chassis update as well, with a new 41mm USD adjustable front fork and preload/rebound adjustable rear shock. The USD fork also now wears radial-mount brake calipers which should add a touch more sharpness to the front end overall. The swingarm is 40mm longer giving more stability, the steel backbone frame has been tweaked for improved handling, and the new Tracer 7 comes with premium Michelin Pilot Road 6 GT rubber.

Both the Tracer 7 and Tracer 7 GT have a full style overhaul for 2025, with new bodywork and slicker styling. There’s LED lighting, a bigger, adjustable windscreen, revised hand guards and a bigger 18-litre fuel tank, plus a neat 5” colour LCD dash and the latest corporate switchgear design. The GT is about £1300 pricier, and for that you get hard panniers, taller screen, centre stand, rubber-inset footrests, a comfier seat and three-level heated grips. The standard bike costs £8804 and the GT is £10,104.

What’s the surprise, then, Al? Well, there’s no option at the moment to have the Y-AMT automatic gearbox on the Tracer, despite it being available on the naked MT-07. You’d definitely expect it to feature on the more touring Tracer, so we guess it will appear later, or perhaps come on a GT+ model as with the Tracer 900. We’re off to ride the new Tracer 7 next month, so will report back on the thinking then.
