Piaggio (the scooter people) have made this – the world’s first, intelligent luggage. No, really.
It’s only a concept, it’s being put forward by people who usually make scooters and own Aprilia and it’s got a degree of artificial intelligence. This is the KILO and GITA project from Piaggio.
Gita is the blue ball (above) whilst Kilo is a larger, three-wheeled version.
What this is is a way of carrying up to 100kg (with Gita) or 120kg (with Kilo) of something you need carrying.
It knows where it is in the real world thanks to a plethora of sensors constantly monitoring it surroundings, the system can also follow a person if that person is wearing a belt that’s also loaded with sensors that relay movement information back to the ball-on-wheels.
There’s nothing about price or when these might actually appear, it’s just an idea and all that – but given that this is a spacial-aware intelligent bit of tech, how long before what’s found here finds some of its way onto things with two wheels?
Roberto Colaninno, Chairman and CEO of the Piaggio Group, said: “The Piaggio Group, through the creation of the Piaggio Fast Forward initiative, looks again to the future, to young people, to the future generations, and doesn’t want to merely be ready to face the challenges of this increasingly complex mobility scenario, but wants to be leading agent of this change. Innovation, research and curiosity are the basis of this project and are its main drivers.”
