This weekend: The Despatch Rally, Dorset

The Despatch Rally takes place this weekend, on Saturday May 7, 2017, in Dorset – aiming to bring together the wider motorcycling community to celebrate and honour wartime motorcycle despatch riders.

The day is set to consist of themed destinations and challenges throughout the Dorset countryside, testing your skills as a Despatch rider, including; shooting, motorcycle control and navigation skills – with a range of points and prizes on offer.

There’s no denying that the Despatch Rally is not your typical motorcycle event. You are free to explore the Despatch challenges on your own terms, using nothing but a good old fashioned map and your own wits to get you through.

The day consists of wartime themed checkpoints throughout Dorset…

–          Test your aim at the Despatch clay pigeon firing range

–          Navigate the off-road time-trial course

–          Tackle the motorcycle control course

–          Gather hidden Info across Dorset following your Serviceman’s map

You will be scored on your performance and winners will be chosen at the end of the event. You have the chance to score points for military attire, or attending on a military themed motorcycle.

The Despatch Rally is a celebration of motorcycling freedom allowing each rider to approach the day differently – but to take part you’ll need to make it down to Rider HQ in time for a briefing at 9.20am. From there you’ll be left to your own devices to explore the Dorset countryside and take part in the challenges, before heading back to HQ for 4.00pm.

Camping

Camping is also available for any Despatch riders who wish to make a weekend of it. Harrow Wood Farm is a short 4 mile ride from Despatch HQ – providing the perfect resupply base for your day, and a comfortable and safe environment to rest up after an intense day on the bike. ​
