170mph cop car for Isle of Man police force

The Isle of Man Constabulary has revealed its brand-new 305bhp, single-seater patrol car – a BAC Mono that has been developed on the island.

Costing £132,500 and weighing in at 580kg, the BAC Mono is capable of reaching a top speed of 170mph, and can do 0-60mph in just 2.7 seconds.  The new patrol car has been kitted out in full blues-and-twos livery and will be introduced into service with the existing Isle of Man fleet.

The Isle of Man is an ideal home for the BAC Mono, as the mountainous sections were used during the development of the model. So, in theory it should be the perfect car to keep up with the racing enthusiasts who make the pilgrimage to the island each year for the legendary TT.

The lucky officer who’s been designated the BAC Mono driving duties is PC Andy Greaves, an advanced driver, police motorcyclist and collision investigator. PC Greaves said: “It’s a remarkable vehicle, and clearly will be of huge interest to bikers and car drivers alike. We are here to promote safe use of the road, and it’s amazing how many people want to talk to you when this is your transport.
