Monday Motorbikes has unveiled its M1 electric autocycle, that’s designed for cruising through urban areas.

The minimalist M1 is free from gears, spark plugs and a clutch – while the bike’s lithium-Ion battery offers a 40-mile average range and charges in five hours. Plus, it’s equipped with pedals that can assist or help recharge the battery.

Its brushless DC motor has a single moving part and is rated for 400,000 miles, while the bike’s longevity is further aided by a regenerative braking system that saves energy and doesn’t require swapping out brake pads.

Additionally, the M1 is equipped with a handlebar-mounted display that shows real time power consumption information – plus, the cloud-connected bike can also be linked with an external app via Bluetooth and pair with a GPS device.

Technically, the M1 is classified as an electric bicycle. However, it’s pre-set for a top speed of 20mph in the city and 40mph in the country – so the licensing requirements might change if it makes it across to the UK.

Available for pre-order in the USA for $4,500 (£3508), Monday’s M1 should arrive in January of next year. Sadly, there’s no talk of UK distribution, but we’ll be watching this space should things change…
