In an interview with Cycle World at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) spoke about his desire to race in the MotoAmerica series, once his MotoGP career comes to an end.
MotoAmerica is now the Superbike Championship that’s continuing to grow across America, and with Wayne Rainey leading the series, it won’t be long before the American Superbike racing is a roaring success again. In the article, Crutchlow starts by explaining his transition from WorldSBK to MotoGP, talking about how easy the likes of Colin Edwards made riding an 800cc GP bike look. He then reveals: “my plan was always to come and race AMA Superbike, and it still is.”
With MotoAmerica racing at tracks similar to the types of circuits Crutchlow raced on during his British Superbike days, the Brit would feel right at home, also saying this is the sort of racing he loves, adding: “The tracks in the US are similar—dusty, hard, bumpy—to what I’m from, like Oulton Park and Cadwell Park. I love that kind of racing. So I still want to do that.”
