The California Air Resources Board has just certified a new 1254cc BMW engine – FINALLY confirming that there’s an entire range of 1254cc R models on the way for 2019.

According to the new CARB documents, the engine will be used across five models – the R1250GS, R1250GS Adventure, R1250R, R1250RS and R1250RT. The all-new 1254cc engine represents an 84cc increase to the existing 1170cc Boxer powerplant used across the R1200 range. All we’re waiting for now is news about what else is going to be changed on BMW’s hugely successful R models. Strangely, it’s already announced that the 2019 R1200 models will receive minor updates and new colour options, even though new replacement models are fast approaching. In the meantime, It looks like we’re simply going to have to sit tight – and wait for BMW’s big reveal at the bike shows in the next few months (INTERMOT and EICMA respectively. All we know is we can’t wait to see the full 2019 R1250 line-up.
