Calvo eventually stopped – but Martinez was furious when he climbed off, resulting in an exchange of blows as other riders raced past. The race was then red-flagged and the two scrappy riders were thrown out.

The case was subsequently taken up by the Latin American Motorcycle Association, which dished out hefty punishment in the form of a two year ban each.
