MotoGP to return to Spa-Francorchamps?

One of the most iconic circuits in racing history could return to the MotoGP calendar.

The dangerous nature of the circuit saw international motorcycle racing withdrawn from the Spa many years ago – but the circuit and local government want to change that.

Of course, there’s still a lot of work to do before Spa-Francorchamps meets FIM regulations – but it’s well on its way to making it happen. Last week, the government of Wallonia (the French-speaking region of Belgium) announced that the circuit had been granted a €29.5 million loan to make the track safe enough to host motorcycle racing at the circuit once more.

The loan is part of a €80 million financial package aimed at updating Belgian circuit. And according to Belgian website 7sur7, we won’t have to wait too much longer to see bikes flying around the iconic circuit once more. The plan is to hold the FIM Endurance World Championship at the circuit in 2022, with MotoGP set to return for 2024. Let’s hope it comes off.
