In an interview with the Economic Times, the Executive Director of Bajaj Auto has confirmed that the company is working on a new generation of electric motorcycles and that the new platform will be developed with KTM (which will be in a position to market electric bikes in 2022).
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto (above) added that his company itself will launch electric bikes at the end of this year and across 2020. The first bike will be a Bajaj-made scooter under the Urbanite brand which will sell in India.
The bikes will be made in India both for domestic and export markets with the first models selling in India and upcoming models for KTM targeting a ‘more premium approach that will focus on mainly exports, including Europe’.

We’ve already seen the scooter prototype from KTM a few months ago and as far back as in 2017 the Austrian company was seen testing an electric Duke prototype which was exposed on the American outlet Motocycle.com.
Apparently, the first electric platform to arrive will be 48V which will equate to a maximum output (equivalent) of 13bhp. Electric, funky 125s from KTM anyone? Yeah, us too.
