All-electric class next year in American Supercross championship

KTM’s new small electric motocross bike, the SX-E5, is at the forefront of small electric motorcycle competition for 2020.

In something of a shift in off-road competition in the USA, news arrives that the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has given the go-ahead for an entirely electric racing class in 2020.

The KTM Junior Supercross series for 7 – 8 year olds will be a purely electric championship without any conventionally-powered motorcycles allowed.

Although it’s not yet confirmed, it’s expected that the young riders will end up competing on the new electric motorcross bike from KTM, the SX-E5 which is claimed to have performance close to the petrol-powered motorcycle equivalent in the Austrian company’s range.
