We told you about Honda’s Benly and Gyro e-scooters a few weeks ago – but alongside the official unveiling of the new bikes at the Tokyo Motor Show, the Japanese factory has confirmed it’s going to be rolling out charging infrastructure and battery swapping stations across Japan in time for March 2020.
The electric variants of Honda’s long standing Benly and Gyro delivery scooters have just been revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show. And in addition to the exiting news that Honda’s finally committing to electric technology – the big news is that it’s planning to launch the Benly e along with the charging infrastructure in Japan by March 2020.
The two scooters will come with removable batteries – called the Honda Mobile Power Pack – which can be swapped out at one of Honda’s battery swapping stations across Japan. And in most cases, depleted battery packs can be swapped for fresh ones in less than thirty seconds. Impressive stuff.

At this stage, there’s been no news if the new electric scooters from Honda are going to make it over to the UK. Chances are Honda will trail the new system across Japan for an extended period, before making the call to roll the new infrastructure system out across other regions. Only time will tell.
