Government confirms mandatory MOT testing will resume from August 1

MOT testing for cars, vans and motorcycles is being reintroduced from 1 August in England, Scotland and Wales.

UK Government confirms mandatory MOT testing will resume from August 1

Back in March, the UK Government granted a six-month MOT exemption to enable key workers to stay mobile during the coronavirus lockdown. But with restrictions being eased and more people returning to the road, Roads Minister, Baroness Vere has expressed that it’s ‘vital’ motorists are able to keep their vehicles safe.

Baroness Vere, Roads Minister, said: “As people return to our roads, it is vital that motorists are able to keep their vehicles safe. That’s why as restrictions are eased, from 1 August MOT testing will again become mandatory. Garages across the country are open and I urge drivers who are due for their MOT to book a test as soon they can.”

It’s worth noting that if your MOT is due before August 1 – you will still receive a six-month exemption.
