Motorcycling MPs, peers and researchers will be swapping the bench for a ride out with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) to brush up on their skills and get the most out of motorcycling.
RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders (RoADAR) has invited motorcyclists to take part in the event on Tuesday, June 17 so they can get an objective assessment of their riding skills.
Starting from Old Palace Yard, the assessment day will run from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
Taking part in the event will be Lord McKenzie of Luton, RoSPA president, who will be riding out at noon, and Bill Wiggan, MP for North Herefordshire, whose assessment will start at 11.30am, among others.
Amy Brant, RoADAR development manager at RoSPA, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming MPs, peers and researchers to take part in our ride out.
“Starting at Old Palace yard, each ride will last 20 minutes, after which riders will receive a certificate and confidential written report on their skills.
“All our trainers are retired or serving police officers and will be on hand to take motorcyclists on the ride. They will also be passing on hints and tips for safer and more enjoyable motorcycling.”
She added: “The idea behind the assessment day came from an earlier discussion between Steve Baker MP, chairman of the All–Party Group for Motorcycling, and RoSPA. With June 16-22 being Ride to Work Week, there couldn’t be a better time to brush up on your skills and get more from your motorcycling.”
RoSPA is the UK’s family safety charity. It has been at the heart of accident prevention in the UK and around the world for more than 97 years, aiming to save lives and reduce injuries on the roads, at home, during leisure, at work and in schools and colleges.
RoADAR aims to reduce road accidents by encouraging an interest in road safety and by improving driving and riding standards, knowledge and skill. It comprises 60 local groups that provide free training to help drivers and riders prepare for their Advanced Test.
