Reflecting the accepted wisdom that those with skills gained via off-road riding make better road riders, Kawasaki and BikeSafe are launching a new scheme targeted to increase confidence and safety in all riding conditions.
Designed to offer something to those new to off-road riding as well as more experienced riders that have yet to make the connection between trail and motocross machines and the challenges of road riding, BikeSafe Off Road Skills courses will be available at a number of UK venues.

Hosted by existing Kawasaki Off Road Experience partners, training will be conducted by recognised experts such as former Paris-Dakar competitor, Mick Extance and MX multiple Champion Lee Dunham.
Already strong believers in the transfer of dirt to road skills, the Kawasaki and BikeSafe Off Road Skills staff aim to teach such things as machine control under low traction conditions, how to predict and rectify instability and hazard anticipation.
Riders of all makes and types of road machines, are able to book directly through www.kawasaki-bikesafe.co.uk, or be referred following any BikeSafe road based workshop. Training will be carried out by accredited Kawasaki Experience Partners, currently at five UK locations with more to follow. Riders with receive an accreditation certificate signed by Kawasaki and Bikesafe upon successful completion of the one day course.
The scheme – which includes the use of an off-road motorcycle and all relevant safety equipment – is available to all full motorcycle licence holders for £200 with a 10% discount applying to existing BikeSafe Riders and Kawasaki Riders Club members.
Commenting on the new scheme, Mark Spiller, Marketing Manager of Kawasaki Motors UK, pointed out that the course was created on the basis that learning should also be fun.
“The sense of achievement that riders feel having mastered off-road techniques is something which we aim to harness with these BikeSafe Off Road Skills courses. Of course the serious side will be to increase the awareness and safety of road riders but there surely can be no better venue than an off-road environment to learn those essential skills within.”
