Fifties Cool: Harley-Davidson’s added another bike to its limited-edition Icon collection: the 1950s-inspired Hydra-Glide Revival

The American factory has got a long, rich history to work with when it comes to creating cool retro rides that are inspired by the firm’s past. And this time it’s decided to rustle up a Hydra-Glide Revival model, aping Milwaukee cruisers of yesteryear.

Sitting as part of the now four-strong Icon range, the £29,495 Revival has been created in part to celebrate the 75th anniversary of H-D’s Hydra-Glide E and F models which first rolled out of the factory in 1949.

The bike’s centrepiece is a tried-and-tested 1868cc Milwaukee Eight 114 V-twin motor which kicks out 115.1lb-ft of torque at 3250rpm and sits proud as punch in a frame that’s been nicked from Harley’s Softail cruiser range. The engine’s even been kitted out with a Screamin’ Eagle High Flow air filter – and is compatible with all Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle upgrade kits, if you’re after a bit more performance.

To make sure it looks just right, there’s the usual abundance of polished chrome; a classically-styled H-D ‘V’ badge on the tank; and a retro-inspired, centrally-mounted instrument panel. There’s also a super-low single seat that has just the right amount of white piping, studs and tassles. Add in some proper leather saddlebags (with more white seams and leather tassels), a 21-inch screen, and a set of spoked 16-inch chrome wheels shod in Dunlop Harley-Davidson Series tyres, and you’re away.

Despite its olde-skool styling, there are a few modern conveniences, too, with electronic cruise control; ABS; a compact digital display; and LED lights all round. There’s even a preload-adjustable rear shock tucked neatly away, meaning riders will have a much more comfortable ride than on the old hardtails.
