A helmet is the most important piece of equipment bikers own, and somewhat surprisingly, it’s the only piece of protective gear bikers must wear under the law, so of course any rider wants to buy the best they can within their means. When looking for my first helmet, I went straight to the professionals – a biker shop! Luck was on my side, as not only did I find a pink/black helmet, but it was sparkly too! Winner! I purchased a sport-touring, full face helmet – the HJC i70 Astro. The lid was a banging bargain, being reduced to £119 from more than £230!

The i70 includes the much needed pinlock lens and a whole host of features such as 7 air inlets, a vision plus enlarged screen, speaker pockets, fully removable antiseptic and breathable inner padding, breath guard and chin curtain. The helmet is suitable for glass wearers, and sizes range from XXS to XXL with 2 shell sizes. The helmet also comes in a variety of colour options.

The best feature for me is the screens central operation lever so you can use both hands and I really like the fact that it locks in place. The internal sun visor is also super easy to operate with a slide motion lever.
As great as it is, is it still lacking with a less than aerodynamic shape and without a spoiler system on the rear to provide some extra performance and styling. I also find the wind noise less than ideal, however, I wear ear plugs (which we all should do anyway) for longer rides to help with that.

All in all, I’d give this helmet a 3.5/5. It’s a great helmet for the price, accommodating a lot of riders AND you’re buying from one of the most well respected brands on the market.
