Following on from the recent launch of its GSX-S1000 naked sportbike, Suzuki is gearing up to release a slightly tweaked version that’s been designed with touring in mind.

Some documents have emerged which confirm that the Japanese factory is working on a new bike that could be called the GSX-S1000T. A couple of months ago, Suzuki renewed its big naked: the GSX-S1000. It’s not a dramatic overhaul – away from the new Euro 5 engine, it’s essentially the same bike as before with a few small tweaks. And now there’s talk that a touring-ready version is coming pretty soon.

The internet is alight with the news that the Suzuki GSX-S1000T is coming, and from what we’ve heard it’ll be much like the old Suzuki GSX-S1000F. That means we can expect a full fairing to make an appearance.

American website CycleWorld has got its hands on some documents which reveal technical information about the new bike. If they’ve got it right, the engine will remain unchanged and will continue to kick out 152hp at 11,000rpm and torque of 106 Nm at 9250rpm. The wheelbase will remain at 1460mm – which likely means there’s going to be no real difference to the chassis or suspension.

Likewise, tyres and brakes will be the same as the out and out naked.

However, the new dimensions figures do reveal that there’re some key differences cosmetically. We should be able to expect the wraparound bodywork and a taller screen to start with. That also means that it weighs a bit more than the standard machine – 11 kilograms to be precise – taking up to 225kg. And that’s that.

There doesn’t seem to be any other changes, except for maybe a slightly different footrest or handlebar position, but we’ll have to sit tight to find out more.
Consider the small amount of work that’s likely to go into turning a GSX-S1000 into a GSX-S1000T, we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to see one in the flesh. Expect to see it on sale by the end of this year.
