Vincent-HRD motorcycle

Bonhams are kickstarting their return to live auctions at the International Classic MotorCycle Show at Stafford in July, it has been revealed.

The show will take place on the weekend of July 3-4 after lockdown restrictions around mass gatherings forced a change from the usual April show.

First to be sold at the Bonhams auction is a 1937 498cc Comet Series A, the first model to use the Philip Vincent-designed engine. The restored Comet was awarded Best Post-Vintage machine at the 2009 Stafford Classic MotorCycle Show, and is estimated to sell for between £35,000 – £45,000.

The star of the show will no doubt be the 1951 Vincent-HRD 998cc Black Shadow, the first two-miles-per-minute production bike, with a top speed of 125mph.

The motorcycle won Best in Show at Stafford in 2010 and has undergone a complete four-year restoration. It is estimated to be sold for £60,000-£75,000.
